Jon Moore (Psychologist)

Overview

Jon has over 15 years of experience as a teacher and psychologist, holding an annual practising certificate with the New Zealand Psychologists Board as a registered psychologist. He brings a wealth of expertise in supervision, education, and leadership, having guided numerous professionals in their development and practice.

Throughout his career, Jon has extensively supervised professionals, supporting their development and expertise. As a senior educational psychologist, he led a team of psychologists, fostering a collaborative environment.

Jon teaches at Te Herenga Waka, The University of Wellington, and directs the postgraduate diploma programme for intern educational psychologists. His research interests include self-concept development, consultation skills, and implementing evidence-based approaches locally.

Skills and Experience

Jon earned his doctorate in Professional Educational, Child, and Adolescent Psychology from the IOE, University College London. He has received training in narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy for anxiety, autism support (SCERTS), and kaupapa Māori informed approaches such as Te Ara Whakamana.

Jon's approach honours and centres the client's experience, applying psychology to empower individuals and find new perspectives for moving forward.

Supervision Approach

Jon brings extensive experience supervising senior and intern psychologists, as well as educators including teacher aides and leadership teams. Jon takes a humanistic approach, prioritising the supervisee’s needs while maintaining clarity about roles and responsibilities within the supervisory relationship. He fosters a transparent, reciprocal process with clearly defined goals to encourage and challenge supervisees in developing their skills and understanding. Jon is committed to ensuring supervision ultimately benefits the supervisee’s clients through thoughtful, structured, and reflective practice.
